Deering Estate Rules & Regulations

Commercial Photography & Film/TV/Video Rules and Regulations

Commercial Still Photography and Filming Permits are by advance reservation only. An additional permit is required from the Miami Dade County Film and Entertainment Office. Permits allow commercial still photography and filming outside of the historic houses only between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Larger Commercial Still Photography and Filming Permitsthan what is defined below, including major film and television shoots, require approval and will be approved on a case by case basisafter submitting detailed request in writing. Approvals may require additional rental or staffing fees.

Permit fees are non-refundable and must be paid upon arrival of the crew. To make a reservation, contact the Special Events Coordinator at jnoord@miamidade.gov or 305-235-1668 ext. 236.

Certificate of Insurance for Public Liability Insurance in an amount not less than $1,000,000 combined single limit for bodily injury and property damage is required. The Deering Estate, 16701 SW 72 Avenue, Miami, Florida33157, must be named as additionally insured. Please fax this documentation to 305-254-5866.

Commercial Still Photography Fees
Small – Scale Commercial Still Photography (up to 10 talent/crew & limited to no more than 1 trailers and a small number of support vehicles): $1,000 plus 7% sales tax per day
Mid-scale Commercial Still Photography (up to 30 talent/crew & limited to no more than 2 trailers and a small number of support vehicles): $1,500 plus 7% sales tax per day
Each additional hour during regular business hours is $100 and $150 before or after regular business hours

Filming Fees
½ Day Commercial Filming (up to 30 talent/crew): $2,000 plus 7% sales tax per day
FULL Day Commercial Filming (up to 30 talent/crew): $3,000 plus 7% sales tax per day
Each additional hour during regular business hours is $300 and $400 before or after regular business hours

Permit Rules and Regulations

  1. Permits are available for commercial photography by advance reservation. The Deering Estate at Cutler provides the use of the exterior of the buildings only for Film/T.V. Video Shoots (between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm).
  2. Certificate of Insurance for Public Liability Insurance in an amount not less than $1,000,000 combined single limit for bodily injury and property damage is required.   3. Major film and television shoots are approved on a case-by-case basis after submitting detailed request in writing. Permit fees are non-refundable and must be paid upon arrival of the crew. To make a reservation, contact the Special Events Coordinator at jnoord@miamidade.gov or 786-735-9505 ext. 236.
  4. Permittee is responsible for the actions of all crew members, talent, and sub-contractors. 
  5. Due to limited parking, parking will be assigned by the Events Coordinator. 
  6. Crews and talent must not block any doors, windows, driveways, stairs or ramps to and from the public areas. 
  7. Animals may not be brought onto the grounds without specific authorization from the Events Coordinator. There will be no fires, explosives or loud noise allowed. 
  8. All crews and talent must be fully clothed while on the property. Shoes and shirts must be worn at all times. Talent may not be made up or dressed in public areas. Provisions must be brought for dressing rooms. 
  9. Sets may only be assembled, not built on the property. Power tools may not be used on the property without prior approval from the Events Coordinator. Aerosol paint may not be used on the property.  
  10. Beverages may be consumed in shoot areas; however, all food must be kept at vehicles and out of public areas. 
  11. There will not be any boats, jet skis, swimming, fishing, etc. allowed in the boat basin or surrounding areas. Filming will not be allowed in the natural areas, gift shop or on Chicken Key. 
  12. No cutting, trimming, or otherwise disturbing of plants and trees, to include tree climbing is allowed. There will be no molestation, feeding or petting of wildlife allowed. 
  13. The permittee must ensure that areas are left clean and that all trash is carried to the designated container.


A 20% refundable security deposit is required plus Miami-Dade County Sales Tax of 7%.
